Finish your portion of the Google Slides presentation for your group's book of The Odyssey. Remember that if you are absent on Thursday/Friday when your group presents, you will receive a 0 as your presentation grade. If your slides are complete but you yourself are not in class to present them, you will receive a maximum 2.0 for the slides.

Study for your final. You will have 75 multiple-choice questions testing your knowledge of The Odyssey, plus three SCRs in the form of CEL paragraphs testing how well you understand what you are reading.

You should rely on the following study aids:

Finish your Odyssey Poem from the point of view of one of the five female characters on the handout (Athena, Calypso, Circe, Anticleia or Penelope). Refer to the handout and rubric for the full list of criteria, or email me so that I can send you a digital copy.

Don't forget to submit it to Turnitin.com before coming to class!!!

Staple and turn in your poem assignments in this order:
1. Cover page - drawn illustration that matches your poem
2. Final draft - 15 lines minimum in first-person POV (3 words per line), 2 underlined epithets for your POV character, etc.
3. Rough draft

You will begin your final during the next class by writing a CEL paragraph on a heroic quality Odysseus exhibits in the book of your choice.

1.   Decide which book of The Odyssey you want to write about.
2.   Remember to bring the required packet or textbook to class. Books 5, 10 and 11 are packets … the rest are in the textbook (see your study guide for pages).

You may use any and all notes you want, as long as they are your own. You may not use anything stored on your iPad.

Your ongoing Odyssey assignments are now late if they are not in by now. That said, you should turn them in as soon as possible once complete so that you don't keep your 0.

You should have:
FOUR sets of PowerPoint notes (see the list we went over in class)
Annotations for TEN books
TWENTY quotes in your heroism quote log (two for each of the 10 books)
TEN complete character bios

After you take your LevelSet test Thursday the 26th/Friday the 27th, you can resume work on your late Achieve 3000 lessons. Your assignment for them is listed below:

IRP #7: Soundtrack
List five songs that could form the soundtrack to your book and explain why you chose each song in 2+ sentences. You may use lyrics (in quotes, PG-13 selections only) to help you explain why you chose a specific song.

IRP #9: "Be Creative" assignment
Provide a creative tie-in for your book (alternate ending, retelling fan fiction, comic strip, poem, board game, promotional action figure, etc.) that reflects your understanding of the book (its themes, characters, social/historical context, etc.

KEEP IN MIND: Your IRP is due to Ms. Ng at the end of next week (whenever you have her class).

Even though I'm not asking for quotes or character bios to be completed by today's class, you should be thinking about quotes to add to your quote log and expect to complete character bios for Hermes and Circe over the weekend.

The article "Sunn was a Shining Star" should appear on your homepage but if not, use the link.  Do all five steps but respond to the following thought question instead of the one given in the lesson:
 
How does Rell Sunn's attempt to establish herself in the male-dominated world of competitive surfing compare to Odysseus' odyssey to return home to Ithaca? In other words, how do Sunn's experiences fit the definition of an odyssey? Use at least TWO pieces of evidence from the article (properly cited by speaker/paragraph) when supporting your answer.  Write more than FIVE sentences.
 
When you are finished, you may work on your IRP, your CEL paragraph due Thursday/Friday, or your ongoing Odyssey assignments (quote logs, character bios, annotations).

PERIOD ONE and SIX ONLY: Since you have such a hard time remembering information, you must make flashcards for every character, place and term listed on the study guide.

You must do this even for the characters, places and terms we have not yet encountered. Simply create the flashcard and fill in the backside as we get to each one.

The information you put on your flashcards should be enough for you to recall this information quickly. Consider using the requirements for your character bios as a suggestion.

Except for Calypso, these characters all reappear in other books. You should to add to your character bios for these characters as necessary.

1. Description of the character's relationship to Odysseus
2. Epithets used to describe the character
3. Which book(s) of The Odyssey the character appears in
4. What place(s) is (are) associated with this character
5. Drawn/Downloaded picture of, or symbol for, the character

SIX+ pages of annotations total (half a page minimum for each scene we read in class EXCEPT Act 2 scenes 5-6 and Act 5 scenes 1-2 ... annotations for those four scenes can be 1/4 of a page long).
