Make sure you have completed your fourth Achieve 3000 lesson ("Colleges Reach Out to Latinos") before you come to class Thursday/Friday.  The link for the article and the thought question you should answer are in the posting from Thursday the 20th/Friday the 21st.

Assignment 3 of 6
Finish CATCH notes for the reading we were able to accomplish in class

P5= end of page 11

Begin your character pages for George and Lennie.  Provide at least ONE quote from Section 1 before coming to Thursday's/Friday's class.

Set up your character pages, symbol chart, glossary and double-entry journal before next week.  That way, you'll be able to add to them over the weekend when we finish Section 1.

You may do your templates in your notebook, but I suggest creating them as Google document(s) (one document for each assignment, or one for all of them together).

Assignment 5 of 6
Bring your IRP book to the next class and your copy of Of Mice and Men.  Not bringing either of these will result in a demerit.

Assignment 6 of 6
Your IRP is due in roughly ONE week!  Finish the book before the weekend to be in the best position to turn your IRP in on time.

Homework due Wednesday the 19th

Assignment 1 of 5

Finish CATCH notes for the reading we were able to accomplish in class (middle of page 5).

Remember to focus your notes on connections to the novella's theme(s) AND to look for examples of the following on each page: foreshadowing, repetition of key words, symbolism, imagery (animal, religious, etc.)

Assignment 2 of 5
It would be a good idea to begin your character logs before Wednesday.  Begin character pages for both George and Lennie and provide at least ONE quote from Section 1 before Wednesday's class.

If you haven't already, use the templates given in class to set up your character pages, symbol chart, glossary and double-entry journal.  That way, you'll be able to add to them when we discuss the text in class.

You may do your templates in your notebook, but I suggest creating them as Google document(s) (one document for each assignment, or one for all of them together).

Assignment 3 of 5
Bring your IRP book to the next class and your copy of Of Mice and Men.  Not bringing either of these will result in a demerit.

Assignment 4 of 5
Your IRP is due in roughly two weeks!  Ideally, you will want to finish the book at least one week before your IRP poster is due. That means odd periods should finish by this Thursday and even periods should finish by Friday.

Those of you interested in attending Gertz’s first off-campus dance and/or Halloween parties that weekend should try to finish even earlier.

Assignment 5 of 5
If you wish to retake your word roots quiz, you must attend one tutoring session between now and November 1st in order for your retakes to count.  Be sure to bring your flashcards, as you can use whatever aids you like on your retake.

If you failed the notebook check for either Unit 1 or Unit 2, you STILL have time to raise your grade to a 2.0.  However, given the fact you did not have all your assignments complete when they were originally due, you must show completion of every assignment before your grade will change.

Homework due Monday the 24th/Tuesday the 25th

Assignment 1 of 6
Do not forget to turn in the final draft for your gothic elements essay to Turnitin.com if you haven't already done so!  I will not begin grading your essay until I check your digital submission to this site.

Assignment 2 of 6
If you did not finish Achieve 3000 lesson #4 ("Colleges Reach Out to Latinos"), please do so for homework.  I will begin checking completion of it after Friday the 28th.

The thought question for the article is: How might the decision to translate college admissions materials in to Spanish impact Latino families? What other steps should colleges take to effectively recruit Latino students?  Explain your response using evidence from the article.

Assignment 3 of 6
Bring your IRP book to the next class and your copy of Of Mice and Men.  Not bringing either of these will result in a demerit.

Assignment 4 of 6
Your IRP is due in roughly two weeks!  Ideally, you will want to finish the book at least one week before your IRP poster is due. That means odd periods should finish by 10/27 and even periods should finish by 10/28. Determine how many pages you have left to finish and divide that by the number of days left.

Ex. If you're a student in period 1 and you still have 115 pages left of your book to read you have 14 days to do it (it's due on the 15th day).  Stuff happens, so you should plan to use the week leading up to the due date as a buffer.  So, if you have 7 days to read your book and 115 pages until you finish, you should be reading 16+ pages a night.

Those of you interested in attending Gertz’s first off-campus dance and/or Halloween parties that weekend should try to finish even earlier.

Assignment 5 of 6
Take some time this weekend to set up your OMAM templates.  That way, when we start reading next week, you'll be able to work on them as we discuss each page.  These are long-term assignments that will impact your 15-week and 20-week (i.e., semester) grades.

You may do your templates in your notebook, but I suggest creating a Google document (for each one, or for all of them).  You will need templates for the following long-term assignments:

Character Pages
Symbol Chart
OMAM Glossary
Double-Entry Journal

I am attaching a digital copy of each template to this site.  If you like, download a copy for yourself and just fill in each section.

Assignment 6 of 6
If you wish to retake your word roots quiz, you must attend one tutoring session between now and November 1st in order for your retakes to count.

Homework due Thursday the 20th/Friday the 21st

Assignment 1 of 6
Complete a final draft for your gothic elements essay and be prepared to turn it in before you walk into class.

Complete rough draft

Please turn in a digital copy of your essay's final draft no later than 11:59 p.m. Thursday (odd)/11:59 p.m. Friday (even).

When can you buy books?
-Before school, after 7:30 a.m.
-During Nutrition
-During lunch/brunch

Assignment 5 of 6
Your IRP is due in roughly two weeks. Ideally, you will want to finish the book at least one week before your IRP poster is due. That means odd periods should finish by 10/27 and even periods should finish by 10/28. Determine how many pages you have left to finish and divide that by the number of days left.

Ex. Let’s say your a student in period 5. If your book is 225 pages long and you did your homework over the long weekend, you should have about 200 pages left to finish at most. If you divide 200 by 17 days, you get 11.76 … So, you should be reading at least 12 pages every night starting tonight if you want to finish on or before Thursday the 27th.

Those of you interested in attending Gertz’s first off-campus dance and/or Halloween parties that weekend should try to finish even earlier.

Assignment 6 of 6
If you have any incomplete Achieve 3000 assignments, make sure you complete those and let me know when they are done either in person or via email.  I will not change any Achieve 3000 grades until they are all complete, and you must complete them no later than Friday the 21st.

If you wish for the possibility of a grade change for your personal narrative grades, please resubmit a hardcopy of your revised essay stapled on top of your original essay on or before Friday the 21st.

Homework due Wednesday the 19th

Complete the rough draft materials for your gothic elements essay (rough draft, peer editing, choice menu tasks, outline) before coming to Wednesday's class.   You will be able to use some of class to catch up on peer editing and type your final draft.

Odd periods: Due to my absence Monday, it is extremely important that you have your rough draft materials complete before Wednesday.  Wednesday will be your last opportunity (aside from email) to ask questions and get feedback before your essay is due.

Note about choice menu tasks: These will be included in your grade for the essay, so please complete them before Thursday/Friday.  I will stamp them when I return to school.

Assignment 4 of 6
Bring $6.25 in exact change to class tomorrow so you can purchase your copy of Of Mice and Men in class.

Assignment 5 of 6
It is already the middle of October, so you should be reading regularly every night in your IRP book. Ideally, you want to finish the book at least one week before your IRP poster is due. That means odd periods should finish by 10/27 and even periods should finish by 10/28. Determine how many pages you have left to finish and divide that by the number of days left (about 17-18).

Homework due Monday the 17th/Tuesday the 18th

At the very least, you should be able to finish your rough draft in class Monday/Tuesday with enough time to get a classmate to peer edit it.

Assignment 2 of 5
If you did not finish the choice menu tasks for your chosen gothic element from Thursday/Friday's class, you should finish it before you begin your rough draft.  Make sure that you complete these tasks in the "assignments" section of your notebook and that you do enough tasks to equal 10 points.

Once finished, make sure that you get a stamp for each completed task to ensure that you really are deepening your understanding of the gothic element you chose.  If you don't complete your choice menu tasks by the time your essay is due at the end of next week, you will receive a 1 for your rough draft materials.
