NOTE: The following homework assignments are due on Monday the 7th for odd periods and Tuesday the 8th for even periods.
 
  1. Bring OMAM to our next class.
  2. Annotate Section 6 (pp. 99-107), completing your annotations for the book.  (Period 4: Read the rest of Section 6 on your own).
  3. Complete a summary for Section 6.  
  4. Write a CEL paragraph (title this Final Practice #5) in your notebook responding to the following question: 
    1. What does Candy realize after his dog’s death and how does this affect George’s decision to shoot Lennie? Be sure to connect the lesson that Candy and George learn to the theme(s) of the novella in your response.
      1. Your claim should identify the lesson Candy and George both learn as a result of their companions' deaths.
      2. Set up your quotes: what caused Candy and George to learn this lesson?
      3. Provide quotes that indicate the lesson Candy and George both learned (perhaps one for each) … don't forget to use the proper citation format
      4. In your explanation, prove how your quotes connects the lesson Candy and George both learn to Lennie's death
      5. Don't forget to connect this lesson to a theme of the novella: how is Lennie's death and George's decision to shoot him tied to at least one of the themes?
  5. Please submit one of your CEL paragraphs to turnitin.com for an activity we will do next week.  It does not have to be your best work.
  6. Due on the day of your final: completed symbol charts (10 symbols total), completed character logs (46 total quotes for 8 total characters)
  7. Due no later than Monday the 14th: IRP Poster grades will be going in soon ... if you have not uploaded your IRP materials to turnitin.com yet (all assignments except #4 and #10), you will get a 0 for the poster.
