Homework due Thurs. 8/22 or Fri. 8/23

NOTE: Bring your copy of "Rafaela Who Drinks Coconut and Papaya Juice on Tuesdays" to our next class.

Assignment 1 of 2:
Add to your annotations for Sandra Cisneros' "Rafaela Who Drinks Coconut and Papaya Juice on Tuesdays" using the Annotations Bingo handout you were given in class.  If done correctly, you should have 23 annotations for this text.

**You will have 10 minutes at the start of class to finish up these annotations.**

How do you get 23 different annotations?
You should have an annotation for every square on the bingo board (minus the "free space" and extra "main idea sentence about freedom").

Can I have less than 23 annotations but still get full credit?
Yes.  Some annotations can be combined into one.  For example, if you found a "reference in the text to jealousy" about Rafaela's husband, that could potentially cover the "an inference about Rafaela's husband based on evidence in the text" annotation.

How will this assignment be graded?
You will turn in your annotations for this text.  You will be assigned SIX of the 23 annotations as a grade.  If you have all 6 assigned to your period, you will earn full credit (a "4").  If not, you will receive a "1" for incomplete work.  If all six are not well explained in your annotations, your grade will be lowered (to a "2.5").  If you turn in completed work after the deadline, it will be worth a 2.0 for late credit.

Assignment 2 of 2:
If you did not complete and/or turn the following assignments, you must do so as soon as possible so you don't lose too much credit:

-Signed syllabus pages
-Goal Sheets
-Annotations for Joanne B. Ciulla's "The Work Ethic, in a Modern Guise" (specifically the main idea sentences)
-Answers to the reading questions for Ciulla's "The Work Ethic, in a Modern Guise" + main idea sentence for the entire text
