Homework due Mon. (8/19) and Tues. (8/20)

NOTE: Bring your copy of the summer assignment reading materials to our next class.

Assignment 1 of 4:
Make sure you annotate the rest of Joanne B. Ciulla's "The Work Ethic, in a Modern Guise" from the summer assignment (paragraphs 5-15). Focus on main ideas for paragraphs 8, 9-12, 13-15.

Even if you already annotated this text, you should update your annotations based on our discussion in your period.  Make sure you cover all six actions we said to take when annotating unfamiliar texts.

Assignment 2 of 4:
Answer reading questions #3-5 for Joanne B. Ciulla's "The Work Ethic, in a Modern Guise" in your notebook.  You will need to turn this in at the end of the next class, so make sure it is not attached to any of your notes from Wednesday.

Make sure you write your answers in complete sentences.  It would be a good idea to make the question part of your answer.  The two questions you need to answer are reproduced below in case you have misplaced your copy of the text.

3.     Read the subsection called “Entitled to a Do-Over”: Describe the first problem the author sees in today’s students’ work ethic, using your own words. 4.     Read the subsection called “Clock-Punching”: Describe the second problem the author sees in today’s students’ work ethic, using your own words. (Hint: clock-punching in this context means to do the bare minimum to get ahead).
5.     Read the subsection called “The Lake Effect”: Describe the third problem the author sees in today’s students’ work ethic, using your own words.

Assignment 3 of 4:
Make sure you come to Monday/Tuesday's class knowing your Achieve 3000 username and password.

Assignment 4 of 4:
If you did not complete and/or turn the following assignments, you must do so as soon as possible so you don't lose too much credit:
