Homework due Thurs. 8/15 / Fri. 8/16

NOTE: Bring your copy of the summer assignment reading materials to our next class.

Assignment 1 of 4:
Make sure you annotate the first four paragraphs of Joanne B. Ciulla's "The Work Ethic, in a Modern Guise" from the summer assignment.

Even if you already annotated this text, you should update your annotations based on our discussion in your period.  Make sure you cover all six actions we said to take when annotating unfamiliar texts.

Assignment 2 of 4:
Answer the first two reading questions for Joanne B. Ciulla's "The Work Ethic, in a Modern Guise" in your notebook.  You will need to turn this in at the end of the next class, so make sure it is not attached to any of your notes from Wednesday.

Make sure you write your answers in complete sentences.  It would be a good idea to make the question part of your answer.  The two questions you need to answer are reproduced below in case you have misplaced your copy of the text.

1.     What is a work ethic? Try searching for the definition on Google and then write out the definition in your own words.
2.     According to the article, what is the primary reason students said they attended college? This article was written in 2007 … do you think this is true of students today? What is your primary reason for wanting to attend college?

Assignment 3 of 4:
Read over the syllabus again with a parent or guardian.  Have your parent or guardian sign the last page and provide contact information, as well as any information they would like me to know about you.  Return this page by the end of the week.

If you happen to have a syllabus where the student signature section starts on page 6 instead of page 7, please sign your name at the bottom of page 7, where the Spanish translation of the document begins.

Assignment 4 of 4:
If you did not complete and/or turn in your summer assignment on the first day of class, you must do so by the end of the week.  Summer assignments in any state of completion will NOT be accepted beyond Friday the 16th.
