Important Notes:
There is limited, if any, cell service on the island. If you are arranging childcare for other members of your family, you should leave a land-based phone contact with that provider. You are welcome to give the Island Packers number for emergencies only, as they can contact the captain to get a message to you. (805-642-1393)
There are no trash facilities -- this is a “Pack it in, pack it out” National Park. Bring only what you can carry in your bag.
Dress for outdoor activities and wear sturdy, closed shoes with good grip soles for safety and comfort. Dress in layers appropriate for the current weather.

+ Lunch/Water – NO PLASTIC BAGS - Styrofoam Coolers
+ Camera/Binoculars - Sunflower Seeds
+ Name Tags - Chewing Gum
- Flamin’ Hot Cheetos (or any variation of
the spicy seasoning)
Participants may also bring cameras, binoculars, note pads and wooden pencils (no plastic pens as they do not degrade if lost). Please leave all electronic games and personal music systems at home.
Seasick Prevention:
Get a good night’s sleep the day before the trip,
Avoid sweets the morning of the trip, and
Have a healthy breakfast.
Consult your family physician about the use of seasick medication if you are so inclined.

1 chaperone = 12-14 Ss
1 naturalist = 2-3 chaperone groups
4 naturalist groups total

Boat Orientation & Safety Talk

Boat Trip to Scorpion Ranch (Santa Cruz Island)
Will offload by climbing a 2-5 rung ladder to the pier
All boats have a snack bar onboard

10:30 am-4:00 pm
Safety Orientation
4 Activity Rotations led by an assigned naturalist
Hike: 2-4 mile, 200-300 ft elevation change, “Moderate” intensity
Lunch

4:00-5:00 pm
Boat Ride to Ventura, CA
5:00-7:00 pm
Bus back to Gertz
