	APPLICATION WINDOW FOR ENROLLMENT 2012 / PERIODO DE APLICACION PARA MATRICULA DEL 2012 We are pleased to announce the application window for families who wish to enroll as one of the 165 freshmen at Gertz-Ressler High School for 2012. 	California Department of Education nominates Gertz-Ressler High School for the National Blue Ribbon Gertz-Ressler High School, among other seven schools in Los Angeles and four in Orange County, was nominated by the California Department of Education to be national blue ribbon school because of its success in increasing the percentage of stuents achieving at the proficient and advanced levels in mathematics and English Language Arts.
	New Rule Shots Before School To help protect your children and others from whooping cough, a new California law now requires students to be vaccinated against whooping cough. For the 2011-12 school year only, all students entering 7th through 12th grades will need proof of an adolescent whooping cough booster shot (Tdap) before starting school.

	Gertz-Ressler ALL-STAR STUDENTS WIN 1st PLACE in WUSHU TOURNAMENT! Several All-Star students who have participated in the Mandarin Program at Gertz-Ressler competed in a tournament against surrounding schools. The ten very talented competitors took home 1st PLACE!
	19 GERTZ-RESSLER SENIORS GET THE GOLDEN STATE MERIT SEAL! Established in 1997, the Golden State Seal Merit Diploma provides recognition to public school graduates who have demonstrated mastery of the high school curriculum in designated areas. Nineteen of our students have qualified this year to get this recognition. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF THEM!
	Gertz-Ressler Joins the Khaled Hosseini Foundation! The Khaled Hosseini Foundation offers schools an opportunity to take part in a program called Students Outreach for Shelters (SOS). This program raises money to build shelters for Afghans who have been displaced by war and are living in refuge camps or temporary shelters.
	GERTZ-RESSLER HIGH SCHOOL RANKED #50 AMONG CALIFORNIA HIGH SCHOOLS!! The Washington Post now reports the Nation’s Top 100 High Schools. Since 1998, The Post’s Jay Mathews has ranked Washington-area public high schools using the Challenge Index, his measure of how effectively a school prepares its students for college. In 2011, the Post expanded its research to high schools across the United States.
